BEHIND
THE LENS.
Lili Bo Ming is a multi-faceted creative and visual storyteller whose work challenges convention and reimagines the gaze through a distinctly nonbinary, feminist lens. With a foundation in Film and Philosophy from the University of Cape Town and early recognition as a 2020 Lampost Luminaries Fellow, Lili has grown into a versatile filmmaker and photographer working seamlessly across directing, cinematography, and stills.
As a Director of Photography and visual artist through 400 Seats, Lili has led both motion and stills campaigns for top-tier clients including Nike, Shelflife, and Puma. They have also worked across the technical crew—loading, focus pulling, and camera assisting—on a range of commercials and music videos, grounding their creative intuition in strong technical craft.
While their commercial experience has expanded their visual language, Lili remains rooted in a personal commitment to storytelling that defies binaries and centers underrepresented perspectives. Their work is often abstract and conceptually driven, with an aesthetic that is raw, emotionally resonant, and instinctively curious — always seeking to connect, reveal, and stir something beneath the surface.
Whether behind the lens or shaping a visual concept from the ground up, Lili Bo Ming brings an intentional gaze and sharp, thoughtful voice to every frame.
